3 areas of focus

New Construction

Habitat for Humanity Greater Chattanooga Area’s goal is to build 8 – 10 new houses per calendar year.  Besides building homes that are simple and affordable for first time homeowners, we build sustainable by achieving Energy Star 3.0 certification on these homes and incorporating low maintenance features.

Our 3 bedroom/2 bath houses are approximately 1,056 square feet and our 4 bedroom/2 bath runs approximately 1,152 square feet.  Foundations are typically slab.  When built on crawl space they are an average 3’ foundation height with crawl spaces conditioned.

Bathrooms consist of tub/shower combinations, vanity and toilet. Kitchens are furnished with dishwasher, stove, range hood and 17.6 cubic foot refrigerator.

As Habitat’s model is to use volunteers for tasks that are not subcontracted out.  Because volunteer days are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, sub contracted work is scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  We can complete homes, after foundations are in place, in 16 weeks meaning we must adhere to a strict schedule.

Habitat prides itself on retaining good subcontractors by:

NR – Neighborhood Revitalization

HFHGCA’s Neighborhood Revitalization program respondsto community needs with an expanded array of products, services and partnerships, enhancing the quality of life for all. One of the services offered to homeowners in the NR focus neighborhood is our home repair program. The scope of the repair projects ranges from minor exterior work (painting, minor porch repair, soffit, fascia, etc.) to more critical repairs (roof work, HVAC, electrical, etc.).

Typically, we complete 13-15 projects every fiscal year with projects lasting about 3 weeks. Because we use volunteers for most of the work on these projects on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, our subcontracted work is completed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Currently our NR work is in the Glass Farm area of north Chattanooga. All work done is on homeowner owned and not rental houses.
