Good for the Environment, Sustainable for Families
At Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga Area, we build our homes to the highest energy
efficiency standards possible while keeping our homes affordable for our partner families.
Habitat works with a variety of Green building programs including "better built," a Chattanooga
based green building certification, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), EPA's
Energy Star 3.0 and our local Electric Power Board. This translates to a 33% savings on
utility bills for our homeowners. This allows them to redirect funds otherwise spent on high
utility costs to other family needs.
Through our energy efficient building, homebuyer education program, a detailed Homeowner’s
Manual and our close relationship with them, we help them understand how to care for their
home, which eases their adjustment as first time home buyers. Sustainable building takes on
a new meaning as our partner families enjoy the empowerment of homeownership and the
confidence of caring for their new home without a crushing burden of utility expenses.
Good for the environment and sustainable for families - That IS sustainable building at it's best.
